Trendiest South Indian Traditional Jewellery To Flaunt this Diwali
India is a land of diverse cultures, colourful festivals and traditions. Different festivals are celebrated in different states on a grand scale. Diwali- The Festival Of Lights is celebrated throughout the world. Like any other celebration, the Diwali celebration in North India is different from Southern India. Here is a different story behind the celebration of Diwali in South India.
Narakasura, the son of Mother Earth caused chaos in all three worlds after receiving a blessing from Lord Brahma, compelling the Devas (celestial creatures) to ask Lord Krishna for support in rescuing them. Krishna's wife Satyabhama, an incarnation of Bhoomidevi, rode in his chariot and helped him destroy the demon. Since, then this day is being celebrated by bursting crackers, adorning new clothes, and exchanging sweets with others.
Though the festival of lights may be known by different names in South India but the celebrations are somewhat similar to North Indian Diwali. Diwali, also known as Deepavali in Tamil Nadu and Balipadyami in Karnataka, is a celebration that unites all types of people in one community. People get up early, put oil on their heads that have been prepared with a variety of herbs, and then take a bath.
People of all age groups deck up in new clothes and eat a special dish called lehyam which is made from the black sweet and sour paste and pop crackers during the day. Different types of sweets and refreshments are prepared during the fest. People visit their relatives and friends and distribute gifts and sweets to their loved ones. A grand fest is also organized where the entire family relish the savoury dishes and enjoys the celebration.
On Balipadyami, which is celebrated both in Karnataka and in Northern India, it is said that King Bali (of the Mahabharata) comes to Earth for a day to see how his followers are doing. In Kerala, this is marked as Onam from August through September.
The names, traditions, and even the spirit behind a holiday might change, but its spirit has the power to unite a family, a culture, and ultimately the entire country. That is what makes Diwali unique.
